Meta Rolls Out New Features For Facebook Messenger

Edited by Akhil Thomas

Facebook Messenger has recently rolled out a number of new features to its users. This includes the ability to send high-definition (HD) photos. With the new update, the Meta-owned platform now also permits users to send larger files up to 100MB in their Messenger chats.

The ability to share images in HD quality is the main highlight of the new update. Meta claimed that users can now send clearer, crisper photos in their chats. To send a high-quality photo, select an image from the chat composer, then turn the HD toggle on and tap Send. Notably, WhatsApp rolled out HD image and video sharing in August 2023.

Apart from this feature, Meta also unveiled a new album-sharing feature. This helps users curate shared albums of photos and videos within group chats. To create a new album in a group chat, users are required to select multiple photos and then tap Create album. To add photos and videos to an existing album, users can tap Add to album. Meta is also providing the option to rename an album.

“To locate the album at any time, tap on your group chat name then tap Media. This feature will be rolling out over the coming weeks,” added Meta. Meanwhile, users can now also add people to Messenger with a QR code. Users can scan a QR code or share theirs with others to start a new message thread instead of manually adding the name.

Facebook Messenger has also increased its file-sharing size limit. “When you’re in a Messenger chat, tap the + button and then select a file up to 100MB. All major file formats are supported, including Word, PDF and Excel,” wrote Loredana Crisan, Head of Messenger, in a post.
