IndiGo airline has issued handwritten boarding passes to passengers to continue operation amid technical uncertainty.

Following the system disruption caused by Friday’s global outage of Microsoft, airlines in India had announced service issues. The Microsoft Windows outage had impacted the workflow of several businesses, including airline, broadcasters, hospitals and other institutions. According to aviation analytics firm Cirium, more than 1,000 flights have been cancelled due to the outage globally so far, adding that the number could increase further.

Notably, to the passenger’ surprise, IndiGo airline has issued handwritten boarding passes to passengers to continue operation amid technical uncertainty.

Several users took to X, expressing their excitement on receiving first hand-written boarding pass.

“The Microsoft / CrowdStrike outage has taken down most airports in India. I got my first hand-written boarding pass today,” wrote an X user, Akshay Kothari, sharing the boarding pass issued to him by the airline.

 

The picture showed the complete details including name, seat, date and departure, handwritten by the airline. Reacting to the post, many users came up with sarcastic comments, finding that the system went back to pen and paper again. Several took a dig at technology, noting that the old-school way is still the best. “Sometimes, the old-school way is still the best way when technology lets us down,” a user, Amit Misra, wrote.
