'Pay Rs 20 To ...': PhonePe Introduces Biometric Authentication, No Need To Enter UPI PIN

Bengaluru, Karnataka: Indian payment platform PhonePe has introduced biometric authentication for UPI payments, enabling users to approve eligible transactions using their smartphone’s fingerprint or facial recognition.

The company rolled out the feature on Friday, February 20, and the AI-powered natural language search feature will allow PhonePe users to complete in-app tasks using text or voice commands.

The feature will remove the need to manually enter a UPI PIN in certain cases, making the payment easier and convenient. The feature was built using Microsoft Foundry. It would process commands such as “Pay Hemanth 20 rupees” or “Recharge FASTag,” automatically opening the relevant payment interface or displaying the correct information.

In a statement, the company said that the update is intended to support a “one-touch” payment experience by removing the need to manually enter a UPI PIN in certain cases.

The new feature was introduced amid the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi.
