As per the News18 report, PM Narendra Modi reportedly shared a significant security measure with the officials during a recent meeting. He asked if they log off from their system after work. He alerted the bureaucrats on the importance of logging off from the computer at the end of the day. ” Do you log out of your IT systems after work? I do it regularly” PM Modi said.

It is important to sign out of your device after work to ensure cyber security, PM advised the authorities. This concern was based on the earlier meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Microsoft owner Billgates as they discussed security issues and ways to curb them. He governed the idea of designating a person to confirm if the systems are closed and logged off after work at the office. Prime Minister acknowledged that he put effort into logging off from the computer and making sure it has shut down before he goes home.

Considering this, a written direction has been issued by the Cabinet Secretary after the meeting to all the officials. It is intended to ensure cybersecurity and to corroborate the safety guidelines protocols that are followed systematically by the authorities. This has to be taken as a continuing effort to keep things secure in the future as well, the report stated.

It has been a national threat around the clock as the officials underwent a barrage of security issues in the past years. In 2021 Air India suffered a hacking attack scamming millions of personal data before its privatisation. Earlier, a hacker claimed to be accessing and selling an extensive database which is associated with the Indian government’s portal for blue-collar workers emigrating from the country. This has been a continuous practice and has majorly focused on officials’ systems and devices.

As per the reports, around 27 lakhs of cyber fraud complaints were reported in the year 2023 and at the beginning of 2024, Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the government is vigilant to detect such frauds and is on a mission to eradicate further cyber malpractices in the country.
