WhatsApp users are expected to receive new tools to have better control over playing videos within the app. This comes as WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that allows users to easily forward and rewind videos with a simple tap on the screen.
This major update was first spotted by WABetaInfo, and as per their report, WhatsApp users can skip forward and backward videos by double-tapping the left or right side of the screen. Notably, the new media player tools in WhatsApp are similar to YouTube”s playback controls. The YouTube app also permits skipping 10 seconds in either direction by double-tapping. The new gesture controls, included in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.24.6 update, will help users easily navigate within videos they receive or send. WABetaInfo also reports that the new update will make it easier for users to interact with video content shared on WhatsApp.
Currently, the new video skip feature is available to only a few beta testers, and other users are expected to receive this update in the coming weeks. The messaging platform is introducing such features with the objective of improving the user experience. In October, a new feature was introduced on the platform in which users can have two WhatsApp accounts logged in simultaneously on the same device. Meta-owned WhatsApp also launched a passwordless login option for Android users last month. The passwordless login feature, introduced as part of improving the platform”s security, permits WhatsApp users to use their face, fingerprint, or PIN to unlock their WhatsApp accounts.
