WhatsApp Rolls Out Email Verification Option

Meta-owned WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out a new security feature for its users. The new feature, named “Email Address”, will permit WhatsApp users to sign in to their accounts using their email addresses. This feature, which is available in the latest WhatsApp beta for the iOS 23.23.1.77 update, was first spotted by WABetaInfo.

According to WABetaInfo, the latest security feature is an additional access method to the messaging platform. The email login option will help the users sign in to their WhatsApp account in case they are temporarily unable to get the 6-digit code through SMS. As per the report, users will be able to see a new section named “Email Address” in their account settings, and here, users need to add their email address. Once the given email address is verified, users can start using this as their login option. Currently, it is available to only a few beta testers. More users will be able to associate an email address with their accounts in the coming weeks.

Notably, WhatsApp has no plans to remove the default login option, as users will still be able to log into their accounts with a 6-digit code. Also, users are still required to have a phone number to create a WhatsApp account, and users can also login to their account using the phone number. The new login feature is optional, as users are free to choose any of the available options. In October, the Meta-owned platform implemented a passwordless login option for Android users. With this, WhatsApp users can use their face, fingerprint, or PIN to unlock their WhatsApp accounts. WhatsApp unveiled this significant feature as part of enhancing the security and user experience.
