WhatsApp Unveils New iOS Update: Everything You Need To Know

Edited by Aishwarya Krishnan

WhatsApp has rolled out a fresh update for all iOS users, bringing notable changes to the app’s interface and functionality. The update, version 24.9.74, introduces green buttons and redesigned icons, along with an enhanced feature for video calling. It was released globally on Monday.

The new WhatsApp update for iOS users aims to improve the overall user experience and refine the app’s functionality across different devices and platforms. The update is now available for download on the App Store for all iPhone models, although the rollout is gradual. All users are expected to receive the update in the coming weeks.

Redesigned Icons

One of the key changes in this update is a colour change: the introduction of vibrant green buttons and notification icons. This feature, tested last month, has now been integrated into iOS, following its recent availability on Android. The new green accents are visible in the message button, group icons, contact symbols, and unread message indicators, even in light mode, maintaining design consistency.

WhatsApp has revamped its set of icons, providing a more cohesive visual experience across its platforms. Previously seen in beta versions, these redesigned icons are now standard for all iOS users, aligning WhatsApp’s appearance across Android, iOS, and web interfaces.

Video Calling Features Now Improved

In terms of functionality, the update improves the video calling feature by introducing audio support for screen sharing. Earlier, during screen sharing sessions, participants could only hear external audio from the microphone, missing device audio. The latest update will enable users to share their device audio along with the screen for a more immersive experience during video calls. The Android version of WhatsApp also received a similar addition recently.

The company said that with some of the buttons and icons looking different, the layout gives a more luxurious feel to the app as they are more spaced out.
