WhatsApp users can now soon share files without sharing their phone numbers with nearby users. This development came after the messaging app announced a feature enabling file sharing up to 2GB in size.
According to WABetalnfo, the website tracks the beta version of the WhatsApp application the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.2.20 update reveals an innovative file-sharing option that is both secure and convenient.
The users who opt to share their files can share it with the users who have enabled the people nearby option on their devices. This ensures that the file exchange occurs within proximity.
Adding on to its features, its end-to-end encryption guarantees the security of the shared file though it is transferred outside a WhatsApp chat or in an unfamiliar environment. The users can initiate the sharing process by simply shaking the device which will generate a share request.
Privacy will remain paramount as phone numbers are concealed from non-contacts during every file exchange.
As per the information given by the WABetalnfo, the feature is still under development and is expected to be available in future app updates. The File sharing feature will also work seamlessly across Android phones and Windows and Chrome OS PCs.
Recently, other tech giants Google and Samsung have improved Nearby Share, their built-in file-sharing feature on Android, and renamed it Quick Share.
Meanwhile, recently the messaging giant has introduced other attractive features such as a one-way broadcasting tool, Channels. They have also released new features for introducing multiple admins, sending audio messages, running polls, and publishing updates from the channels on their WhatsApp status.
As per the reports, the most widely used messaging app has reached 200 million active user base in June 2023 and is expected to reach 3 billion in 2024.
