WhatsApp Unveils Pinned Messages Feature

Meta-owned WhatsApp has announced a new pin message feature, in which users will be able to pin important messages in their chats. WhatsApp users will be able to pin any type of message, including text, a poll, an image, or even emojis, on individual or group chat messages. The latest feature will be available for Android, iOS, and PC users.

“Introducing Pinned Messages now everyone can stay on top of a chat by keeping the important messages up top,” wrote the messaging platform on its X handle on December 12. This pinned message feature will save users time by making it easier to find important messages quickly. According to WhatsApp, users can pin one message to the top of a chat, and it will stay at the top of the chat as a banner for 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. This means the message can only be pinned on WhatsApp for a maximum of 30 days, and the default option is 7 days. Meanwhile, the minimum duration for a message to be pinned is 24 hours. The message will unpin itself after its set duration expires. After unpinning, those messages will return to its original position in the conversation.

WhatsApp also mentioned on its Help Center page that group admins can choose to allow members to pin messages in a group chat. Notably, when users pin a message in a group chat, a system message is shared with everyone in the chat, indicating that a message was pinned and who pinned it. To ‘Pin’ a message, users need to long press on the message and select ‘Pin’ from the context menu. Users are then required to choose the duration (24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days).

WhatsApp is making constant efforts to enhance the overall user experience on the platform. Recently, WhatsApp unveiled disappearing voice messages. It will permit users to send a voice message that can only be listened to once before it disappears.
