WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform, has unveiled a new “secret codes” feature for locked chats. With the secret code feature, users will be able to hide their locked chats by setting a custom password. In May, the Meta-owned platform introduced the Chat Lock to enhance the privacy of users” conversations.

WhatsApp mentioned in its blog on November 30 that the latest feature is an additional way to protect locked chats. The secret code feature makes locked chats harder to find if someone has access to your phone or you share a phone with someone else. “With a secret code you’ll now be able to set a unique password different from what you use to unlock your phone to give your locked chats an extra layer of privacy,” mentioned WhatsApp in its blog.
If users hide the locked chat folder from their chatlist, it can then only be discovered by typing the secret code in the search bar. At the same time, if users do not wish to use the secret code feature, they can still choose to have the locked chats appear in their chatlist. To lock a new chat, users simply need to long-press a chat. This means users are required to enter individual chat settings to lock a chat. WhatsApp also mentioned that the secret code feature will be available globally in the coming months. Meanwhile, earlier, there were reports that WhatsApp is testing a shortcut feature, in which users will be able to get quick access to AI-powered chats directly from the Chats tab.
