Billionnaire-entrepreneur Elon Musk-owned X has unveiled a new updates for its Community Notes feature, aimed at enhancing note quality and user engagement on the platform. The update, outlined in an official communication, introduces improvements to note quality while increasing the number of notes displayed on X by approximately 6%.
A key aspect of the update is the identification of 6% more “Not Helpful” notes, which aims to curtail the writing ability of authors regularly submitting such notes. This mechanism works by pinpointing notes that a diverse range of contributors agree are of low quality, such as those containing abuse or harassment. Consequently, the update reduces Contributor Helpfulness Scores for raters endorsing such notes, thereby prioritizing contributors consistently identifying helpful notes.
Community Notes, also known as “Readers Added Context,” empower X users to participate in the fact-checking process of tweets shared on the platform. By allowing users to collaboratively add context to potentially misleading posts, X endeavors to foster a better-informed online community.
According to X, the Community Notes feature operates on an open and transparent process. Posts adorned with Community Notes will not be labeled, removed, or addressed by X unless they violate the platform”s Rules, Terms of Service, or Privacy Policy.
