X Premium Subscribers To Soon Get Access To Grok AI

Edited by Akhil Thomas

The world is currently witnessing a generative artificial intelligence (AI) revolution. AI technology is experiencing rapid, never-before-seen levels of adoption. Elon Musk, the owner of microblogging platform X, announced on Tuesday that the Grok chatbot will soon be available to all premium subscribers of X. Grok AI chatbot was developed by Elon Musk’s xAI startup.

Elon Musk made this significant announcement through a post on X. Notably, Grok AI was earlier available only to Premium+ subscribers. The billionaire’s AI company launched Grok in November 2023 to mainly compete against Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The new move in the tech world indicates that Elon Musk’s AI startup is all set to compete more directly with other popular chatbots on the market.

“Later this week, Grok will be enabled for all premium subscribers (not just premium+),” wrote Musk on his X handle on March 27. At the same time, the billionaire had not revealed any other details, including the exact launch date.

On the other hand, the move to introduce Grok AI to premium subscribers also indicates that the platform is trying to increase its subscriber figures. On March 23, NBC News reported that the number of people using X daily is falling. The report, citing data from Sensor Tower, mentioned that X usage in the United States was down 18 percent year-over-year as of February and down 23 percent since Elon Musk’s acquisition.

Earlier this month, xAI released the base model weights and network architecture of Grok-1. “This is the raw base model checkpoint from the Grok-1 pre-training phase, which concluded in October 2023,” wrote the AI firm in a blog post on March 17.
