According to the Kerala tourism department, the state attracted a record number of domestic tourists in the first six months of the calendar year. The number of domestic tourists visiting the state reached 10,683,643, up 20.1% from the 8,895,593 tourists who visited the state in the same period last year.
The state also saw a significant increase in the number of foreign tourists, which increased from 105,960 to 181,770, a jump of 171.55%. The revenue generated by the tourism industry has also increased, with Kerala earning Rs. 35,168.42 crores from tourism in 2023, up from Rs. 11,335.96 in 2022.
Ernakulam district attracted the most number of tourists, with 22,162,500 tourists visiting the district in the first six months of the calendar year. Idukki (18,015,002 tourists), Thiruvananthapuram (17,212,664 tourists), Thrissur (11,677,88 tourists), Wayanad (8,716,64 tourists), and Kozhikode (6,742,37 tourists) followed in popularity.
