Darbanga, May 15: Despite the Bihar Police trying to stop him from reaching Ambedkar Hostel, the venue of ‘Shikhsha Nyay Samvaad’, an interaction with the students belonging to the Dalit, backward, extremely backward and ST categories, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi addressed them and held interaction with them.
The Bihar Police tried to stop him from reaching the venue. However, with the support of the large number of students present there, Gandhi managed to reach the venue and interact with tens of thousands of students who had gathered there to listen to him.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge condemned the brutal attempts by the Janta Dal (United)-BJP government to prevent Gandhi from interacting with the students. “Is an interaction with the Dalits, the deprived, and backward class students against the Constitution?” he asked, while remarking, this is total dictatorship.
Interacting with students, Gandhi reiterated and reaffirmed his resolve to ensure that the caste census is carried out across the country. He also made it clear that the Congress does not want a caste census like the one conducted in Bihar, but prefers one carried out in Telangana.
He also reiterated his demand for implementing the law to provide reservations in private educational institutions. He said, the Bihar and the Central governments did not want to provide reservations in private colleges and universities.
Gandhi expressed confidence that with people’s support, the Congress will force Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide reservations in the private educational institutions, the same way he was forced to announce caste census and bow before the Constitution of the country.
Expressing concern over the condition of the Dalits, backwards, extremely backwards, tribals and minorities, he said, despite constituting ninety percent of the country’s population, they had virtually no share in top decision-making institutions like the bureaucracy, the corporate India or the judiciary.
Gandhi said that the Bihar Police tried to stop him, but they couldn’t – because the power of youth and the marginalised is with him. No force in the world can stop the people’s power.
