Patna, Bihar: Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has slammed the Bihar Police for its aggressive actions against protesting Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) candidates in Patna. The students were protesting against the alleged paper leak while demanding the cancellation of the exam. The students began the strike on December 13, accusing irregularities during an exam conducted by the authorities.

In a social media post, the Congress leader, while sharing the police action, pointed out he had said in Parliament that in the same way that Eklavya’s thumb was cut off, in the same way the thumbs of the youth are cut off by leaking the papers.

“The latest example of this is Bihar. BPSC candidates are raising their voices against the paper leak and demanding cancellation of the exam. But to hide its failure, the NDA government is instead resorting to lathi charge on the students,” the Congress leader said, adding that the incident was “extremely shameful and reprehensible.”

The Rai Bareilly MP underlined that playing with the future of students will not be tolerated, and the Congress party is with them and will fight to get them justice.

Many students have reportedly claimed that they received their question papers nearly an hour late, while some claimed that their answer sheets were torn. The delay in distributions of the question paper and the alleged question paper leak has pushed the students to the streets.

During the protest, the Bihar police on Tuesday resorted to “lathi-charge,” allegedly injuring the protesting students. The videos being shared on social media have also shown the police’s forceful eviction of the students through aggressive lathi charges.

However, after several political leaders slammed the police action against the protesters, the cops have claimed that they resorted to mild force and denied allegations of injury to the students.

The protesters demands include the re-examination and the cancellation of the preliminary examination of the BPSC and the declaration of a fresh date for the test at the earliest.
