New York University (NYU) has withheld Logan Rozos’ diploma following his graduation speech denouncing US support for “genocide” in Gaza, a two-minute address that condemned US complicity in Palestinian suffering and elicited mixed reactions from the audience. The university claims Rozos misrepresented his speech to express “one-sided political views” and has apologised for what it termed an abuse of a privileged platform. Disciplinary action is underway, and Rozos’ diploma remains on hold pending review. In his speech, Rozos, who identified as a “gay Black trans man” and studied political economy, described the conflict as a live-streamed genocide but did not name Israel or Jews.
