Thirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: Amid ongoing tensions between Governor R N Ravi and the DMK government, a PhD scholar named Jean Joseph refused to accept her degree from the Governor at the convocation of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in Tirunelveli on Wednesday (August 13) As a form of symbolic protest, she received her certificate from the Vice Chancellor, who was standing beside the Governor.
Jean Joseph, the wife of DMK Nagercoil Deputy Secretary M Rajan, has completed her thesis in Business Administration and was among the 650 students who attended the university’s graduation ceremony.

While speaking to the media after receiving her degree, Jean said: “It is my choice from whom I should receive the degree, considering how the Governor functions. I avoided him since he is acting against the interests of Tamil and Tamil Nadu. That was the reason I did not receive the degree from the Governor,” the Statesman reported as she is saying.
