The Ministry of Education on late Wednesday night announced the cancellation of the UGC-NET examination saying that the “integrity of the examination may have been compromised.”
This development comes amid controversy around the NEET exam, which is facing allegations of irregularities. The UGC-NET is an examination to determine the eligibility candidates for the position of ‘Assistant Professor’ and ‘Junior Research Fellowship’ and the admission for PhD programmes.
The examination was conducted in OMR mode on June 18 in two shifts across different cities of the country. Nearly 10 lakh students appeared for the exam.
The cancellation of the exams will be a further embarrassment for the government and NTA as they are currently under scrutiny for the mismanagement of the national level medical entrance examination NEET.
In response to the information received from National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit, the Ministry of Education decided to cancel UGC-NET.
