Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, presented the map of “new Middle East” during his speech at the 78th session of United Nation General Assembly.
Palestine was completely equated out from the Israeli Prime Minister”s new cartography. The occupied land of West Bank and Gaza Strip appeared to be part of Israel in the new map.
This is not the first time Israel came forward with their “erroneous” maps. Earlier this year, Bezalil Smotrich, Finance Minster of Israel, claimed there is “no such thing as Palestinians“, as he was addressing a gathering with a cartographic representation that included Palestine, Syria and Lebanon as part of “Greater Israel”.
Earlier this year, Mr. Smotrich, who himself is a settler was given the power of West Bank”s administration from the Military in a “de jure annexation”. The power include authority over civilian issues, settlement planning and construction and authority to appoint officials in Israel”s governing body – Civil Administration – in West Bank, says report.
Mr. Netanyahu also called for remoulding the regions on the basis of new ties with Arab Countries, especially Saudi Arabia. He said, “I believe we are on the cusp of a more dramatic breakthrough: a historic peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia”.
Israel and Saudi Arabia is edging closer to such arrangement “every day” as said by Saudi Prince Muhammed Bin Salman.
A day prior the Israeli Prime Minister revealed the new map, Mahmoud Abbas, President of Palestine addressed UNGA while stating that no Middle East peace can be achieved without Palestinians are granted full statehood. As per the report, his words were, “Those who think that peace can prevail in the Middle East without enjoying their full legitimate and national rights would be mistaken”.
Mr. Netanyahu on Friday remarked that, “We must not give the Palestinians a veto over peace treaties with Arab States”.
Earlier UN has called Israel occupation on Palestine, a “gross violation” last month. The 2023 annual report commissioned by UN committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People observed that Israel”s occupation in West Bank is illegal and demanded Israel”s “immediate and unconditional” withdrawal from Palestinian territory.
