“Collective Punishment Crimes Against Humanity”:  Rahul Gandhi On Gaza, Condemns “Hamas' Killing Of Innocent Israelis”

The killing of thousands of innocent civilians, including children in Gaza and the collective punishment of millions of people by cutting off their food, water and electricity are crimes against humanity, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in an X post. He also condemned the “Hamas” killing of innocent Israelis and taking of hostages” and called it a crime.

“The cycle of violence between Israel and Palestine must be brought to an end,” the Congress leader said in the post.

Rahul Gandhi’s reaction came after at least 500 people killed in an Israeli strike on Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, which was housing hundreds of sick and wounded, as well as people forcibly displaced from their homes in Gaza. The government of Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, called the attack a ‘war crime.’ The incident has sparked global outrage and paved way for yet another clarification on who stands with who.

However, Israel claims the attack was done by Palestinian Islamic Jihad armed group and Palestinian officials claim the attack was done by an Israeli air ride.

Earlier, the Congress Working Committee, the top decision-making body of Mr Gandhi’s party, had expressed its dismay and anguish on the war that has broken out in West Asia.

In a resolution that was passed in the last meeting the Committee held in New Delhi reiterated its long-standing support for the rights of the Palestianian people to land, self-government and to live with dignity and respect. “The CWC calls for an immediate cease-fire and for negotiations to begin on all outstanding issues including the imperative issues that have given rise to the present conflict,” the resolution said.

Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera reported that the casualty in Palestine reached at least 3,785 since Hamas’s October 7 attack inside Israel, which has killed more than 1,400 people until today.
