The head of the Islamic Republic Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has announced that the dead bodies of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and other deceased are being transported to Tabriz in northwest Iran.
The large-scale search and rescue operation has ended as the dead bodies are sent to a place in East Azarbaijan province where the martyrs of Tabriz are buried, IRCS informed.
As per the IRCS head Pir Hossein Kolivand, the bad weather and the heavy fog hindered the search process. and the rescue teams managed to find the scene of the incident on Monday morning.
President Raisi and other officials were traveling via BELL 212 Helicopter, which is a two-blade aircraft, manufactured in the US. With a capacity to carry 15 people, the helicopter is said to be 10 years old. The US sanctions made it difficult for Iran to obtain parts or new aircraft.
Notably, Ebrahim Raisi died on the birth anniversary of Imam Reza, the eight Shia Imam. Raisi was to return to Tehran from Tabriz. The Late Iranian President Raisi was from the city of Mashhad in the northeastern Iran where Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine is located. Late Ebrahim Raisi was a servant of Imam Reza Holy Shrine.
Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi offered his condolences upon the deaths of Raisi, Amirabdollahian and other Iranian officials. “The president of the Arab Republic of Egypt … prays that the deceased Iranian president and the departed may rest in God Almighty’s mercy, and grant their families patience and solace, expressing the solidarity of the Arab Republic of Egypt with the Iranian leadership and people in this terrible incident,” a statement read.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad called Raisi’s death a “great loss” and praised the late president”s efforts to “ensure that the strategic relations between Syria and Iran remains always prosperous”.
Chinese president Xi Jinping also sent a message of condolense and called his demise as unfortune. Xi Jinping said that China has lost a good friend.
