Ebrahim Raisi, the eighth president of Iran and the foreign minister died in a helicopter crash incident that occurred in the Dizmar forest between Varzaqan and Jolfa in East Azarbaijan province on Sunday, the Iranian official news agency confirmed.

- The 63-year-old Raisi was the president for nearly 3 years and represented the conservative and hardline factions in Iran”s politics. A former chief justice, Raisi was seen as a potential successor to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the 85-year-old Iranian Supreme leader.
- Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahina, East Azarbaijan Province”s Governor Malek Rahmati, and Mehdi Mousavi the head of Raisi”s guard team were on board the crashed copter.
- The head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) said that no survivors were found at the crash site of the helicopter carrying Iran”s President Ebrahim Raisi and other officials in northwest Iran.
- Raisi”s helicopter, along with two other copter, were en route to Tabriz”s city after the president inaugurated Qiz Qalasi Dam at the border with the Azerbaijan Republic.
- Helicopter lost contact with the other two copters, which prompted the two members of president”s entourge to contact rescue team.
- China”s Foreign Ministry also released a statement saying that Chinese officials were deeply concerned about the situation and pledged to provide any support to Iran. Raisi visited Beijing in February 2023 and he said to moved Iran closer to China.
