A leaked comment from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has angered Qatar, with the Gulf state saying that it was appalled by the former”s comment in which he termed Qatar”s mediation efforts with Hamas as “problematic.” The comment was reportedly made during the Prime Minister”s meeting with the families of the hostages.

Haim Rubinstein, a spokesperson for the Hostages and Missing Families Forum said that the leaking of Netanyahu”s comment is a grave issue that indicates a loss of control. Talking about the meeting, Haim Rubinstein said that all conversations that take place in meetings with the Prime Minister are recorded by his office and his associates present at the meeting, “The families participating in the meeting had their phones taken at the entrance,” the spokesperson added.

However, the captive”s families denied leaking the record and accused Netanyahu”s office of taping and leaking the voice in which he made the remark terming Qatar”s role as “problematic”

Qatar condemned Netanyahu”s comment terming it “irresponsible and destructive” and it further added that the remarks would complicate ongoing negotiations aimed at bringing an end to the war and the release of the captives. The leaked words of the Israel Prime Minister were reported as: “Qatar, from my point of view, is no different in essence than the United Nations… and the Red Cross, (Qatar) is even more problematic,” Netanyahu said in a recording aired by Israeli Channel 12. I have no illusions about them. They have leverage (over Hamas)… Because (Qatar) funds them.”

However, Netanyahu further said he was very angry recently with the Americans for the US”s renewal of military presence in Qatar for another 10 years, as per the report.
