Fire Breaks Out In Air Arabia Flight To Calicut Due To Power Bank Explosion

A fire broke out inside the Air Arabia passenger flight, flying from Abu Dhabi to Calicut after a passenger’s power bank exploded on Thursday morning. Despite the chaos and confusion, those were on board were able to extinguish the fire.

Fortunately, no causalities have been reported. The passengers on board were safely evacuated through the exit doors. The police officials had held back the passenger and his sister who had the power bank. Two men who had tried to open the exit doors on the rear side were not allowed to fly back to Kerala, reports local media.

The situation was resolved immediately, facilitating the passengers to continue their journey on another flight.

According to the passengers, flames and smoke were noticed when plane was getting read to take off from Zayed International Airport. Though the passenger who owned the power bank tried to douse the fire, the cabin crew rushed to the scene and extinguished the flames.

The passenger who owned the power bank was identified as Naseem of Kuttiyadi, who later arrived in Kozhikode. The passengers on the aircraft had shot the video of the fumes, however, the crew reportedly instructed to delete the footages before boarding the flight again.

Mobile phones and power bank explosions have become common. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of incidents of such explosions in mid-flight.

In February, a Thai flight from Bangkok to Nakhon Si Thammarat was thrown into chaos due to a power bank explosion. However, the 186 passengers on board were unharmed.

The united efforts of the passengers and crew members helped them extinguish the flames that broke out mid-flight.
