The Palestinians in the Israeli prisons are being treated inhumanely. The reports are appalling, and beyond the level of comprehension for normal beings. Testimonies on how brutal the attacks are all over the social media networks, as most of the mainstream media refuse to give space for the Palestinians, but are more keen on exaggerating the cooked up stories dispatched from Israel even without proper evidence.

They are being tortured to the point that the detainees are losing their senses and sanity. The accounts of torture are beyond a sane human’s imagination, according to reports. They are held captive in a cage, beaten to pulp, deprived of food, water, medical treatment, sanitation, and even sleep. The detainees recall that their hands, legs, and eyes are tied, and were not allowed to talk to each other.

That was not all. Reports suggest that Israeli Occupation Force is treating the Palestinians in the most sick and sadistic way. They unleash trained dogs on the detainees. Forced them to have sex with dog, gave shock treatment until some of them lost their sanity, beat detainees nearly naked while recording, limp amputation, performing surgery without anesthesia…the list goes on.

The Israeli occupation force released Al Shifa hospital director, Mohammed Abu Salmiya, after 7 months of kidnapping and detention. He was held without any charges and was tortured to bits.

According to the Commission of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners Club, the Israeli occupation forces had arrested more than 9,450 Palestinians from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, since the beginning of the current war of extermination in Gaza. Over 3,661 detainees are held under arbitrary Administrative Detention orders without charges or trials.

Two months back, Haaretz, an Israeli newspaper quoted a doctor at an Israeli Field Hospital for Gaza Strip detainees, stating “we are all complicit in breaking the law”. In its special report, Haaretz reported the doctor saying that two prisoners had their legs amputated due to handcuff injuries. The report added that in a letter written to Israeli Defence Minister, the Minister of Health, and the Legal Advisor of the Israeli government, the doctor said, “two Palestinian detainees had their legs amputated because of the shackles digging into their bones and skin and added that this became a routine occurrence”.

One of the Israeli whistleblower, who worked at the Sde Teiman, a notorious prison camp in the Negev desert, said that the Palestinian detainees are tortured not to “gather intelligence”, but “out of revenge” for October 7th.

Often referred to as “Israel’s Abu Ghraib”, the infamous prison in Iraq where dozens of detainees were tortured to death, Sde Teiman has been described as a hell on earth by former Palestinian detainee.

One of the released Palestinian recall about the instance of being electrocuted, mauled, starved, and raped by dogs among other abuses.

According to Haaretz, 27 detainees were killed in the Sde Teiman prison and Anatot camps during the interrogation by the Israeli occupation force since October 7th. As per Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs in Gaza, over 57 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli jails since October 7th last year.

As per testimonies collected by the Geneva-based Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor, Israeli military brought Israeli civilians into detention centres and allowed them to witness Palestinian prisoners being tortured.

Former detainees said that groups of 10-20 Israeli civilians were allowed to record the torture session, where men, stripped nearly naked, were beaten with metal batons, electrocuted, and had hot water poured over their heads. The Palestinians said some of the Israelis laughed while filming their torture.

Haaretz published details of abuse on the Palestinian prisoners who had been taken for trail. The article published in last April, the newspaper described about regular beatings, prisoners being attacked by dogs, being forced to kiss the Israeli flag, being forced to curse the Prophet Muhammad, being deprived of water (including for a toilet in a cell shared by 10 inmates), the electricity being cut, insufficient food and being stripped naked.

Adalah, HaMoked, Physicians for Human Rights Israel, Public Committee Against Torture in Israel (PCATI) and other human rights organisations have called on the United Nations special rapporteur on torture for urgent action to end “the systematic abuse, torture and ill-treatment of Palestinian prisoners and detainees in Israeli prisons and detention facilities”.

The submission describes a “brutal escalation”, which is characterised by what appears to be systemic violence, torture and ill-treatment against Palestinians in Israeli custody in seven different prisons and detention facilities since the start of the war in October.

Al Jazeera quoted Moazzam Begg, a human rights advocate who was held in Guantanamo Bay for three without charge. Begg draws parallel between what the Israelis call administrative detention under which Palestinians cane be rounded up and denied legal rights.

“There’s an evident parallel between Gaza and Guantanamo and the war on terror. What you see from the treatment, from the stripping naked of the prisoners to the mistreatment of them, to the abuse of the religious and racial attributes. There’s absolutely a parallel. It’s undeniable”, he said, as quoted by Al Jazeera.

Israel’s far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir said that the “prisoners should be shot in the head instead of being given more food”. He addressed the prison condition by stating that, “It is unfortunate that I have had to deal in recent days with whether Palestinian prisoners should receive fruit baskets”

Gvir emphasized a bill proposed by his right-wing Otzma Yehudit Party, which calls for the execution of the Palestinians in Israeli prison.  “They should be killed with a shot to the head, and the bill to execute Palestinian prisoners must be passed in the third reading in the Knesset. Until then, we will give them minimal food to survive. I do not care about this”, Ben-Gvir said.
