Bolivian government severed diplomatic ties with Israel on Tuesday afternoon in response to alleged war crimes and human right violation taking place in Gaza strip. Other Latin American countries, Chile and Colombia recalled their ambassadors to the West Asian countries for consultations, reports Reuters.

Maria Nela Parda, Bolivia’s minister of the presidency who is acting foreign minister in her statement demanded an end to the attack on Gaza strip which claimed thousands of civilians lives and caused forced displacement of Palestinians.

Deputy Foreign Minister, Freddy Mamani said at a press conference that Bolivia has decided to break diplomatic relations with the Israeli state in repudiation and condemnation of the aggressive and disproportionate Israeli military offensive taking place in the Gaza strip.

This was not the first time Bolivia severed its tie with Israel. During the administration of former Bolivian President Evo Morales in 2019 has also taken the same decision following the invasion of the Gaza strip by Israel.

The three countries including and Chile and Colombia have called out for a ceasefire. While Chile and Bolivia pushing for the passage of humanitarian aid into the zone and accusing Israel for violating the international law.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro called the attacks on Palestinian people a ‘genocide’.

“It”s called Genocide, they do it to remove the Palestinian people from Gaza and take it over. The head of the state who carries out this genocide is a criminal against humanity. Their allies cannot talk about democracy,” he wrote on X.

At the same time, Latin American countries Mexico and Brazil has also called out for a ceasefire.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva wrote on X expressing his concern regarding the ongoing conflict which resulted in the death of 3,000 children. He in his post asked for an immediate ceasefire.

“It makes me sad to see 3,000 children die in the Gaza Strip in a war they did not claim. And the irresponsible people who made the war are now mourning the deaths of these children? Feeling the weight of things? We are seeing, for the first time, a war in which the majority of those killed are children. No one takes responsibility and we were not even able to produce a letter from the UN convincing the ceasefire. Stop! For the love of God, stop!” he wrote on X.

Bolivian former President, Evo Morales, joined with the government’s decision to sever tie with Israel and wrote on X that Bolivia must declare the state of Israel as a terrorist state and file a complaint with the International Criminal Court.

While the Israel foreign ministry has not yet responded to the comment.

Israel has expanded its ground invasion in Gaza. Dozens of people has been killed in an Israeli strike on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza. The health ministry has confirmed than more than 50 has been killed and many wounded. The strike was confirmed by Israel military force. The attack was done alleging to aim at a very senior Hamas commander responsible for the attack on October 7.

But the Hamas has declined the presence of their leader in the camp and described it as a “heinous crime against safe civilians, children, and women in Jabalya camp”.

The Gaza health ministry has reported that more than 8,500 Palestinians have been killed in the war so far.
