Meanwhile, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mahbooba Mufti announced that her Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) campaign for the Assembly election will be called off on Sunday, to condemn the killing of the Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. She asserted that her party stands with the people in Lebanon and Gaza.

“Cancelling my campaign tomorrow in solidarity with the martyrs of Lebanon & Gaza especially Hassan Nasarullah. We stand with the people of Palestine & Lebanon in this hour of immense grief & exemplary resistance,” she tweeted.

The killing of Hassan Nasrallah has heightened tensions in the West Asia region.

The Lebanese group Hezbollah on Saturday has confirmed the death of their chief in an air strike on the group’s underground headquarters near the capital, Beirut.

Hours after Israel claimed the killing of a 64-year-old, Hezbollah said its leader “has joined his fellow martyrs” and pledged it would “continue the holy war against the enemy and in support of Palestine” amid fears that a regional war is now inevitable.

Iraq has declared three days of mourning after the news of the assassination of Nasrallah.
