ICJ Orders Israel To Take Measures To Prevent Genocide, Asks to Report The Development Within One Month

As the international community and people in Palestine were waiting, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) asked Israel to take all measures to prevent the genocide in Gaza and then ordered the country to report within one month on what it is doing to uphold the ICJ”s order to prevent the acts of genocide in Gaza. The court further asked Israel to take immediate and effective steps to allow humanitarian assistance into Gaza. The ICJ was delivering its verdict in the case filed by South Africa accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza.

Starting the ICJ procedure today, Presiding Judge Joan Donoghue said that the Court is acutely aware of the extent of human tragedy in the region. Joan Donoghue noted there is sufficient evidence for genocide cases. The court cited the military operation of Israel for a large number of deaths and injuries, massive destruction of homes and the forcible displacement.

The president remarked that the statement by the Israeli officials was dehumanising language, noting the Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant in ordering a complete siege and that Israel is fighting against human animals. There are 16 judges, out of the court’s 17-judge panel, who are present in the session.
