Amid increasing international isolation and alarm over the devastation from the military campaign in Gaza, Israel defense minister Yoav Gallant has said that it will take months to destroy Hamas predicting a drawn-out war.
The defense minister comments came after the US national security adviser Jake Sullivan’s visit to discuss the winding up of major combat in Gaza. But the Israel leaders has decided to move on with the military assault until they crush the militant group, reports AP.
Meanwhile, the US government has urged Israel to take greater care to protect civilians in Gaza. Netanyahu after meeting with the US envoy said, “I told our American friends: Our heroic soldiers have not fallen in vain”. Israel Foreign Minister Eli Cohen too confirmed that the war on Gaza will continue with or without international support.
The prime minister of the Palestinian Authority, Mohammed Shtayyeh said that its time for United States to deal more firmly with Israel, particularly on Washington’s call for postwar negotiations for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
Meanwhile, the Gaza city is under communication blackout once again. Gaza’s government media officer says a communications blackout means it will be even more difficult to reach the dead and injured.
Israel forces continues its raid in occupied West Bank and separate raids are being conducted in other parts of the Palestinian territory, with heavily armed Israel soldiers marching into the village of Al-Mughayir, northeast Ramallah, and clashing with residents of the city of Tubas.
As per Al Jazeera report, ten thousand of Palestinian civilians were trapped inside their homes as armed Israel drones, armoured vehicles, military bulldozers and at least 1,400 reservist soldiers took part in a massive 60-hour raid on Jenin in the occupied West Bank.
The Israel’s atrocities in Gaza have intensified since the ground invasion. For the third consecutive day on Thursday, Israel forces backed by tanks raided the Kamal Adwan hospital, located in the north of Gaza city and subjected the Palestinians there to “mass arrests and ill-treatment”, says the UN. The UN also reported that Israel attacks from air, land and sea in Gaza killed at least 179 Palestinians and injured more than 300 in a 24-hour period between Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. The Palestinian fighters continues resistance by launching rockets towards Israel and the death of another Israeli soldiers on Thursday brings the death toll among Israel forces to atleast 116 and around 650 injured since the invasion of Gaza began.
At least 18,787 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 7.
