During a combat operation in Shejaiya, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) “mistakenly” killed three Israeli hostages after identifying them “as a threat and as a result, fired toward them”.
On a social media post, the IDF has also said the killing happened at Shejaiya, located east of Gaza”s city center, and their bodies were transferred to Israeli territory for examination where it was confirmed that they were three Israeli hostages.
The killed were identified as Yotam Haim, who was kidnapped from Kibbutz Kfar Aza by Hamas on October 7 and Samer Talalka, who was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Am, the IDF said.
The third hostages’ family has been notified and after the family’s request his name will not be broadcasted.
“IDF and Israel Police representatives have notified all of the families,” the social media post said.
“The IDF began reviewing the incident immediately. The IDF emphasizes that this is an active combat zone in which ongoing fighting over the last few days has occurred. Immediate lessons from the event have been learned, which have been passed on to all IDF troops in the field,” they said.
The IDF has also expressed “deep remorse over the tragic incident and sends the families its heartfelt condolences” and asserted that “Our national mission is to locate the missing and return all the hostages home”.
The neighbourhood, that has seen fierce battle between the occupation force and Hamas during previous wars, remains the same for the IDF this time as well.
Fierce fighting between the Palestinian resistance and Israeli forces continued in the Shejaiya, as Israeli warplanes carried out new massacres in central and southern Gaza, reported Palestine Chronicle.
Since the war between Israel and Hamas started on October 7, 450 Israel soldiers have been killed so far.
Israeli bombardment and ground invasion have caused the murder of more than 18,000 Gazans as the war passed two months.
