Jordan Calls Netanyahu's Mission For 'Greater Israel' A Threat To Its Sovereignty

Jordan, in responding to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s comments about the mission of a ‘Greater Israel’, calls the remarks a threat to its sovereignty. Netanyahu, while talking to the new channel i24 on Tuesday, said that he feels ‘very attached’ to the vision of Greater Israel and considers himself on a historic and spiritual mission to the generations of Jews.

Notably, the Greater Israel term is used in Israeli politics, taking reference from the biblical mythology, showing the expansionist ideology of Israel.

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry called Netanyahu’s comments a dangerous and provocative escalation, a threat to the sovereignty of states, and a violation of international law and the UN Charter.

While calling the vision of Greater Israel delusional, Jordan said this will not affect Jordan and the Arab states and will not diminish the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.

The ministry alleged that the extremists of the Israeli government are encouraging the continuation of cycles of violence and conflict in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

It called on the international community to take immediate action to stop provocative measures and statements by Isreal which threatens the stability of the region and international peace and security.
