Pakistan Army Chief, General Asim Munir calls the human rights and genocide of Palestinians a stain on International norms and law-abiding societies during a televised speech on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence.
The Pakistani General also reiterated support for Palestine and its effort to send humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. Reportedly, the army chief said that Pakistan believes the fresh violence on Palestinians in Gaza is the result of unabated repression, continued human rights violations, and state-sponsored sacrilege of Al-Aqsa mosque.

Notably, Pakistan does not recognize Israel as a state and consistently raised the Palestine cause at international bodies. It always demanded an independent Palestinian state based on the pre– 1967 borders.
Asim Munir, the Pakistani Army Chief took charge of the army chief in 2022 under the Shehbaz Sharif government after the retirement of General Qamar Javed Bajwas. He is in charge of the 600,000-strong nuclear-armed army.
Pakistan has remained critical of Palestine during the ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza. Recently, during an Organizations of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting held in Jeddah, Deputy PM and Foreign Minister of Pakistan Mohammad Ishaq Dar urged to the members OIC to put an oil and trade embargo on Israel.
Currently, the threat of regional instability in West Asia is looming large under the Lebanese and perceived Iran’s attack on Israel. International community is pressing hard to avoid the situation. Recently, UK, France and Germany issued a joint statment to stop the ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza. Hamas has also urged the implementation of the Biden Plan for a longterm truce and hostage deal. The talks are expected to be held on Thursday with the mediation of US, Egypt and Qatar.
