As Britain, France, and Germany issue a joint plea to end the fighting between Israel and Hamas with ‘no further delay’, international pressure is mounting for the ceasefire in Gaza. Reportedly, the Palestinian resistance group Hamas urged mediators to implement a truce plan given by US President Joe Biden instead of holding up for more talks.
As per the reports, Hamas said on Sunday that it wanted the implementation of the truce plan laid out by Biden on May 31 and endorsed by the UNSC instead of going through more rounds of negotiations.
On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and British PM Keir Starmer issued a joint statement to end the fighting. ” The fighting must end now and all hostages still detained by Hamas must be released… There can be no further delay”, the leaders jointly stated. The people of Gaza need urgent and unfettered delivery and distribution of aid, it further said.

International mediators are pressuring Israel and Hamas to resume talks for a truce and hostage release, after the killing of Ismail Haniyeh as it sparked fears of a wider regional conflict.
Reportedly, a round of talks is planned for Thursday and has been accepted by Israel at the invitation of the US, Qatar, and Egypt.
The Biden plan is a three phase plan reflecting a roadmap to a longterm ceasefire and the release of all hostages. Earlier, mediation efforts failed to produce an agreement as it was allegedly said as an Israeli proposal.
Hamas has named Yahya Sinwar as its chief to succeed the truce negotiator Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated on July 31 in Tehran.
