Qatar on Wednesday condemned “in the strongest terms” the Israeli occupation forces” bombardment of the Rafah governorate, invasion of the land crossing and threat to displace citizens from shelter and housing centers. The West Asian country, an active member of the mediation team, has also called for an urgent international action that to prevent the invasion of the city and the commitment of a genocide, and to provide full protection for civilians in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that the forcible displacement of civilians from the city of Rafah, which has become a final refuge for hundreds of thousands of displaced people in the Gaza Strip, constitutes a serious violation of international laws and would double the worsening humanitarian crisis in the besieged Strip.
The Ministry has also reiterated the State of Qatar”s firm position on the justice of the Palestinian cause, the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
However, Israel has started its invasion into the eastern area of Rafah despite the mounting international pressure to an immediate ceasefire. Notably, the streets in Gaza hoped for a return to normalcy when they heard the news of Hamas accepting the ceasefire-for-hostage deal. But the Jewish state did not accept the truce and instead vowed to continue its airstrike on Rafah, the place where approximately 1 million Palestinians are taking refuge.
In an apparent move to expand the attack to Rafah, Israel had ordered an evacuation from the site, which caused an exodus of thousands. The army started storming into the eastern area of the Rafah on Tuesday and has claimed that they are conducting targeted strikes against the Hamas.
According to a report by Al Jazeera, the Israeli shelling has killed several people in Rafah and the Kuwaiti Hospital, one of the few health facilities still operational in the region, received bodies of 35 people killed and 129 wounded over the past 24 hours.
