As the world celebrates International Day To Protect Education From Attack on September 9, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Regional Representative in Doha Salah El Din Zaki Khaled emphasised that Qatar plays a crucial role in promoting agenda of educating marginalized, needy children and youth.
After unanimous approval from the United Nations General Assembly at its 74th session, the world celebrates September 9th as International Day to Protect Education From Attack.
In an interview with Qatar News Agency, Mr. Khaled applauded the long standing collaboration between Qatar and UNESCO. He stated that Qatar has contributed significantly to UNESCO”s vision, strategy and area of focus which embrace education, culture, science, communication and information since the country joined UNESCO in 1972.
He added that the Qatar – UNESCO partnership covers a wide range of programmes and focuses on education, culture and sustainable development. He also said that Qatar has hosted the UNESCO Regional Office for Gulf States and Yemen since 1976, which clearly portrays Qatar”s commitment to supporting UNESCO”s strategies and programmes at the national, regional and global level.
