Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the fourth and youngest son of the former ruler, Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and the youngest brother of the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of Dubai Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, dies.

Sheikh Ahmed grew up during the foundational years of the federation. His brothers, including Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid, Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid, and current Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, played vital leadership roles in shaping the country’s economic power and international profile.

Throughout his life, Sheikh Ahmed contributed to public service and regional security through his leadership within the security apparatus.

Serving as Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security, he was instrumental in strengthening law enforcement institutions, modernising administrative frameworks, and ensuring the stability that allowed Dubai to transform into a global financial center.

Beyond his official administrative capacity, Sheikh Ahmed was widely known for his passion for equestrian sports and horse racing—a deep-seated Al Maktoum family tradition—where he established influential stables that competed at high international standards.
