After Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, chaos reigned Bangladesh. 20 dead bodies of Awami League leaders were found across the country, said a report. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the nation, following violent protests by students over giving job quota to freedom fighters’ children.

After the toppling down of Hasina, rioters engaged themselves in vandalism and looting of homes and businesses of Awami League leaders, reported Dhaka Tribune. Reports also suggest that house of former councillor Md Shah Alam in Comilla city, 100 km from the capital Dhaka, was set on fire by a mob.

House of MP Shafiqul Islam Shimul was also set on fire, in which were people were reportedly killed. Parts of the Awami League’s main office in Dhaka were also set on fire.

At least 24 people were reported to be killed after a mob set fire to the Zabeer International Hotel in Khulna division. The hotel is owned by Shahin Chakladar, the General Secretary of Jashore district Awami League.

In a video that is being widely shared on social media, Gobinda Pramanik, after introducing himself as the General Secretary of the Bangladesh National Hindu Mahajot, stated that there have been no incidents of attacks on temples or Hindus. However, he noted that the houses of some Hindu leaders of the Awami League, who were very active, as well as those of some Muslim leaders, were attacked.

Hasina fled her country after resigning amid massive protests and escalating violence that resulted in hundreds of deaths since July. Over 300 people were killed, among which 100 were killed on Sunday alone. She is currently in India, potentially en route to the United Kingdom. Hasina and her sister arrived in Delhi on Monday, following increased pressure for her resignation.
