Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended 20th ASEAN summit held at Jakarta, capital of Indonesia. Mr. Modi shared that he finds it as an honour to co-chair the summit.
In his address, Mr. Modi voiced 21st century to be Asia”s. He emphasised that “ASEAN is the centre pillar of India”s Act East policy. He also added that mutual cooperation in the current environment of global uncertainties is making steady progress.
Mr. Modi remarked that ASEAN holds key role in India”s Indo – Pacific initiative. He further added that he believe todays discussions will bring in new resolutions for strengthening the future of India and ASEAN region.
“This year”s theme is ASEAN Matters : Epicentre of Growth. ASEAN Matters because here everyone”s voice is heard & ASEAN is epicentre of growth because ASEAN plays an important role in global growth”, said Mr. Modi. He also added that history and geography along with shared values, regional integration and shared belief in peace, prosperity and multipolar world also unite India and ASEAN.
After the India – ASEAN summit Mr. Modi attended East Asian summit where he indulged with East Asian Leaders about cooperation in the key areas of further human empowerment.

Mr. Modi was received by I. Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmavati, Minister for women Empowerment and Child Protection at the Jakarta International Airport. He also received a grand welcome from members of Indian diaspora at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Jakarta.
