China has toppled former Foreign Minister Qin Gang over an allegation on having an affair while serving as US ambassador. Mr. Gang was removed from the post in July and his predecessor Wang Yi who served as the Chinese Foreign Minister from 2013 to 2022 took after him.

Mr. Gang”s tenure as the Foreign Minister lasted only seven months. As reported by Wall Street Journal, Mr. Gang has been in an affair while serving as the US ambassador and a child is born to him in US. The news paper also reported about the top officials were informed about Communist Party Inquiry into Mr. Gang”s uncovered “lifestyle issues”, a phraseology that usually means sort of sexual misbehaviour in Chinese officialdom.

As per the report, Mr. Gang is cooperating to probe in to the details of whether or not matters regarding national security was compromised during the affair. Mr. Gang was divested from his post as Foreign Minister in July 2023 without any explanation of the removal.

His removal raised questions regarding Chinese President Xi Jinping”s decision making and stability of the world”s second largest economy”s government. The incumbent Communist party”s senior rank officers are also under the radar now as their dealings in foreign countries were dissected, as per the report from Wall Street Journal. The Foreign Ministry of Beijing did not immediately respond to the request to comment on the situation.

Mr. Gang was sent to Washington on 2021. He openly embraced American cultures. He attended baseball games and took ride with Elon Musk in his Tesla Inc. car.

The two super powers, China and America are always neck on neck based on their ideological differences and economical and geopolitical rivalries. China has recently upgraded their security shields to guard their territories from external threats.
