
China Moves To Curb Negative ‘Killjoy’ Posts Online
China has launched a two-month-long campaign aiming to control the social media posts that are excessively negative, pessimistic, and kill the joy of others. As per the authorities, the aim is to correct the negative emotions and create a more civilised and rational online environment.
China has been facing a disillusionment among its younger generation about the higher rate of youth unemployment and tough competition for colleges and Jobs.
China also expects social media platforms to contribute to the massive internet clean-up.

The Cyberspace Administration said it would give out ‘strict punishments’ against those social media apps that contribute to the negative content. “A clear and healthy cyberspace is in the interests of the people”, China’s Cyberspace Administration said.
The negative narratives such as “studying is useless, and “hard work is useless,” or stories promoting nihilism such as “world-weariness,” are circulating among the youth, impacting their outlook towards.
As per the BBC report, Professor Simon Sihang Luo of Nanyang Technological University, said that young people in China have serious questions about the future prospects of their lives and must confront the fact that their livelihood is very likely going to be worse than their parent’s generation.

State-run media while praising the step neccessary said that it will restore order online, warning that negative content can cause panic and destroy the public trust.
