“After a considered review of the security situation that takes into account some recent Canadian measures in this regard, it has been decided to resume visa services for the following categories with effect from October 26, 2023: Entry visa, Business visa, Medical visa, and Conference visa,” said the High Commission of India in Ottawa in a statement. The High Commission also added that emergency services will continue to be handled by the Indian High Commission and the Consulates General. The statement also mentioned that further decisions will be announced based on the evaluation of the situation.
India suspended the visa services for Canadian nationals on September 21. When tensions between both countries escalated, India also issued an advisory for Indian nationals and students in Canada. India made this crucial decision amid the controversy over the killing of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in parliament that Indian agents were behind the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Canada also expelled a top Indian diplomat from the country. The Union Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that the allegations of India”s involvement in any act of violence in Canada are absurd and motivated. India also asked a Canadian diplomat to leave the country within five days. India also asked Canada to take proper legal action against all anti-India elements operating from their soil.
