Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with UAE President Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan and discussed about the ongoing India Canada row stating that it is important to uphold and respect the “rule of law”. During the phone call, both the leaders also addressed their mutual concerns about civilian protection in Israel.
Trudeau shared on X , “On the phone today, His Highness Mohamed Bin Zayed and I spoke about the current situation in Israel. We expressed our deep concern and discussed the need to protect civilian life. We also spoke about India and the importance of upholding – and respecting – the rule of law.”

Trudeau’s response came amid rising diplomatic crisis between India and Canada over the killing of Sikh separationist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. Canada has laid accusation on India for its involvement in the killing.
On Sunday, Trudeau has raised the India-Canada row with his UK counterpart Rishi Sunak, who said he hoped to see a de-escalation of the issue, according to a Downing Street statement.
Trudeau spoke to Sunak on Friday evening during which he was updated about the situation relating to Canadian diplomats in India. He also reaffirmed the UK’s position that all countries should respect sovereignty and the rule of law, including the principles of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
Last week, India has asked Canada to withdraw approximately 40 diplomats by October 10, the Financial Times reported. It has also stated that they have threatened to strip the diplomatic immunity of Canadian diplomats if they remain in the country after the deadline.
While Trudeau”s comment on Israel comes amid the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza strip region.
