Iran, Saudi Arabia Call for End to Israeli War Crimes Against Palestine

In a rare show of unity, the leaders of Iran and Saudi Arabia have called for an end to Israeli war crimes against the Palestinian people.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held a telephonic conversation on Wednesday, during which they expressed their deep concern over the escalating violence in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

According to Iranian state media, both leaders urged Israel to stop its indiscriminate attacks on civilians and to respect international law.

The Saudi crown prince also assured that the Kingdom would be making all possible efforts to stop the ongoing conflicts and would hold talks with all international and regional parties for the same.

The joint statement from Iran and Saudi Arabia is a significant development, given the two countries” long history of rivalry and hostility. Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed to end their seven-year hostility in a bilateral meeting mediated by China held in March. With the new statement, they reinforced the bonhomie, as experts commented.

The Iran-Saudi Arabia conflict has been one of the major drivers of instability in the region, and it has had a devastating impact on countries like Yemen and Syria.
