Kate Middleton apologized and admitted to editing the official portrait of her that was released by the Kensington Palace after several news agencies pulled back the image over concerns of manipulation. The princess said it was her experimentation on editing “like many amateur photographers”, and apologized for casing confusions.

Name of Catherine, Princess of Wales, has been grabbing headlines over her unusually prolonged absence from public eye, paving ways for online speculations on her health.

Dispelling the conspiracy theories, the Kensington Palace released a photograph of the Princess with her three children, which was said to be taken by her husband Prince William.

However, questions emerged as the photograph consisting of Kate clad in casual jeans, sweater and jacket, with her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The picture showed misalignment in the sleeve of Charlotte’s cardigan giving birth to the suspicions on the authenticity of the picture.

News agencies like Reuters, Associated Press (AP), Getty Images, and Agence France-Presse (AFP) issued a notice asking not to use the image. The picture was posted on the official X (formerly twitter) handle of The Prince and Princess of Wales, and was captioned as, “thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months”, wishing the public a Happy Mother’s Day.

After news agencies including Associated Press withdrew the image citing the “absence of clarification”, the official X (formerly twitter) of Kensington Palace issued a statement, in which Princess Catherine said the picture was edited by her. She said she “wanted to express my apologies for the confusion” the picture has caused.

A former BBC correspondent, Peter Hunt, said that the whole issue is “damaging” to the royal family. He said, “their challenge is that people will now question whether they can be trusted and believed when they next issue a health update”.
