Nepal Flash Flood: Over 1,000 Missing, Nearly 270 Dead As Death Toll Expected To Rise

Nepal:  The death toll is rising in Nepal after a glacier collapse triggered deadly flash floods along the Nepal-China border. At least 165 people have been confirmed dead, while over 1,000 remain missing, including around 600 tourists — both Nepali and foreign nationals.

However, the final toll is still uncertain, as the number of casualties could rise.At least 300 Indians are missing. India’s home ministry has said that the country is closely monitoring the situation arising from a flash flood in Nepal, amid concerns that rising water levels could affect areas along the India-Nepal border. Kerala government said it had received around 17 distress calls from families of Keralites affected by the disaster. Based on the initial calls, around 25-30 tourists from Kerala are estimated to be stranded in the flood-hit region.

Several houses, villages, bridges, roads and other established were swept away during the flash flood. Trees and electricity poles had already been knocked down as the water flew through.

Several countries have expressed concerns over the incident, while standing in solidarity with the affected people.
