Netanyahu Is "Hurting Israel More Than Helping": Joe Biden

Joe Biden’s frustration on his Israeli counterpart seems to increase visibly. During an interview given to MSNBC, Biden said Netanyahu’s approach to the war on Gaza is “hurting Israel more than helping Israel”. He warned Israel that there are “red lines” that Israel should not cross. At the same time he vowed that he would never abandon the US ally Israel.

Biden said Netanyahu have the “right to defend itself, a right to continue to pursue Hamas”, and added that the Israeli Prime minister should pay more attention to the innocent lives that are being lost as a consequence of the actions taken”. He said the invasion on Rafah would be “red line” for Israel but he would never “leave Israel”.

Contradictorily, Biden said, “the defence of Israel is still critical, so there’s no red line (where) I am going to cut off all weapons so they don’t have the Iron Dome to protect them”, without finishing his chain of thoughts, Biden then said “but there’s red line if he crosses them…cannot have more than 30,000 Palestinians dead”.

While Biden vowed his unwavering support to Israel in its indiscriminatory bombing campaign against Hamas and people of Gaza, hid administrations has been increasingly at odds with Netanyahu’s conduct of war on Gaza with number of civilian casualties and restriction on allowing the desperately needed humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave.

Biden administration repeatedly asked Netanyahu to not to launch the planned offensive in Rafah until Israel can ensure that the more than 1.3 million people who are now crammed in Rafah can be safely evacuated.

Earlier, Joe Biden announced plans to build a temporary port in Gaza to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid by sea as Israel heavily restricts the transportation of aid by the land. Last month, he expressed hope that Israel and Hamas could agree to temporary pause in the war before Ramadan. But the said truce talk ended without any conclusion as leader left Cairo last week.

Israel’s indiscriminatory bombing has killed more than 30,800 Palestinians, mostly women and children, as per the Gaza Health Ministry.
