Pakistan's Railway Station Blast: At Least 24 Killed, Over 46 Injured

At least 24 people were dead and more than 46 were injured after an explosion hits Quetta Railway Station in Pakistan’s Balochistan today, November 11.

Pakistan’s news portal The Dawn reports the case appears to be a suicide blast, citing Quetta Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Mohammad Baloch. However, to ascertain the reason and the nature of the explosion, an investigation has been launched.

Condemning the incident, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said that it was a continuation of targeting innocent people. Issuing a statement, the chief minister added that the terrorists’ target now are innocent people, labourers, children and women. “Those targeting innocent people do not deserve mercy,” he said. He called the culprits non-humans and worse than animal, adding that the elements involved in such activities in the past are being traced.  Bugti further promised to caught those responsible for the blast.

The chief minister also ordered a detailed investigation into the incident.  Besides civilians, “some law enforcement” personnel were also killed, according to Quetta Division Commissioner Hamza Shafqat, who confirmed that the explosion was a suicide blast.

The banned militant group Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility.
