Russia Fires First Nuclear-Capable Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles At Ukraine

In a first use, Russia has fired the intercontinental ballistic missiles at Ukraine amid significant escalation in the ongoing war between the two countries. With a range of 5,500 kilometers, the powerful, nuclear-capable missile was launched earlier on Thursdays, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

Amid warnings from Moscow, Kyiv had used US and British missiles at targets inside Russia this week, triggering Russia’s latest attack. The missile attack targeted enterprises and critical infrastructure in the central-eastern city of Dnipro, according to the air force.

The intercontinental ballistic missiles are strategic weapons designed to deliver nuclear warheads. The weapon is an important part of Russia’s nuclear deterrent. However, the Ukrainians did not specify what kind of warhead the missile carried, nor was any suggestion it was nuclear-armed missiles.

Russia has not reacted to Ukrainian military’s statement regarding the latest attack. Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reportedly told the media persons to ask to the military for the comment. Russia also fired a Kinzhal hypersonic missile and seven Kh-101 cruise missiles, six of which were shot down, according to the Ukrainian military.

On Tuesday, after Ukraine fired long-range missiles at Russia, Moscow had warned with nuclear threat as the war lingers month than 33 months. In the recent weeks, the war in Ukraine has been escalating between the two countries, as president-elect Donald Trump is set to ascend to the power in the US, a major ally and military supporter of the Ukraine.
