On Sunday, incumbent President Joe Biden dropped out of the US presidential elections and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s new nominee for the race. As soon as the update came, Facebook posts about Harris and former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown surfaced once again.

The recurrent suggestion that Harris, “the 29-year-old mistress” of the “married 60-year-old Willie Brown,” has made its way to the top again, along with a photo of the two together. While the photo is authentic, the claims are not.

While both Harris and Brown did have a relationship, the former was separated from his wife for over a decade when the two began dating each other in the mid-1990s. Moreover, their relationship was never a secret.

Harris had a relationship with Brown, who later served as the mayor of San Francisco between 1994 and 1995. Although Brown was legally married at the time to Blanche Brown, the two have been reportedly estranged since 1981.

In 1995, the two broke up. Reporter Herb Caen wrote in his daily column on December 26 that year that “the news came as a shock to many, including those who found Kamala Harris attractive, intelligent, and charming.”

Brown served as the mayor of San Francisco from 1996 to 2004, while in 2003, Harris became the district attorney of the state and county of San Francisco.

In 2019, Brown published a short op-ed in the San Francisco Chronicle with the headline, “Sure, I dated Kamala Harris. So what?” Recently, Brown said that he had been receiving calls from national media after news about her running for president became obvious. “Most of them, I have not returned. Yes, we dated. It was more than 20 years ago,” he said, as quoted by Reuters.
