Kamala Harris Has A Stronger Chance Against Trump Than Biden: Poll

Ever since US President Joe Biden faced rival and former President Donald Trump in the first round of debate ahead of the presidential elections in the country, the former has been on the receiving end of widespread criticism, even among the Democratic supporters after his poor performance. Now, the latest CNN poll states that Vice President Kamala Harris has a better chance of retaining the White House in the elections than the 81-year-old Biden.

As per the poll, conducted by SRS, Biden’s approval rating has dropped significantly against 78-year-old Trump, who is ahead by six points.

In a hypothetical matchup, Harris closely follows Trump. While the latter enjoys 47 percent of registered voters supporting him, Harris has around 45 percent, a result within the margin of error suggests no clear leader.

The CNN polls stated that the vice president’s strength in the numbers lies in “broader support from women (50% of female voters back her over Trump while 44% support Biden over Trump) and independents, with 43% supporting Harris and only 34% supporting Biden.”

Notably, the Reuters/Ipsos poll indicates Michelle Obama (50%) is leading against Trump (39%) by 11 points in a hypothetical match between the two candidates. Following the bleak performance by Biden in Atlanta last week, speculations were rife that the former first lady would step in as a replacement as a representative of the Democratic Party.

However, her office reportedly told NBC News in March that she would not be running for the presidential elections and instead expressed her support for Biden and Harris in their reelection campaigns.

Acknowledging his dismal performance, Biden admitted that he “almost fell asleep” during the debate due to jet lag. During a campaign in Virginia’s McLean on Tuesday, Biden said, “I didn’t have my best night. I wasn’t very smart. I decided to travel around the world a couple of times, going through around 100 time zones before the debate.”
